Is it possible to use one certificate on two sites?
Ie a production system and development system, or is the certificate tied to the domain name or IP and the only way would be www.abc.com/live

A certificate is per IP address, you can't use the same certificate on two virtually hosted sites because of a catch 22 situation with SSL and vhosts. You'd need to get two certs, one per IP, or get a wildcard cert if both sites are under the same domain.
