Default Irritating ads (not same as popups)

Is there a way to prevent those annoying ads that come up over the internet explorer screen? The are usually ads with a tiny 'close [x]' somewhere in the ad. the ads are usually dark in colour, kinda ghost like most the ones I've seen are for car manufacturers etc.

This can suggest you have spyware on your PC. Try running adaware or Spybot Search & Destroy and see what they find.

I don't think it's spyware.

It's part of the web site when I've looked - an 'inline' sort of flash animation, often with sound.

Well fecking annoying.

ChrisB - yup, they're the ones. They all seem to be linked to the sites and from 'reputable' companies (volvo, bmw etc.)

Hate the bl**dy things

Hello

There isn't really much you can do about those. They are coded in to the site.

Some examples on www.computerandvideogames.com

There is something you can do....

Don't visit sites with invasive ads & never buy products from companies that spam or have invasive ads.

Not really practical that though is it. If Subaru or VW or Aston Martin or Peugeot etc. had invasive ads on their website, would you not buy their cars?
