Default Mini bootable XP OS on CD??

Is it possible to create a form of XP or W2k onto a bootable CD so that I could boot and carry out certain emergency repair tasks? I have an issue with a hard drive that the emergency repair console cannot fix, so I was hoping to create a mini OS to try the checkdisk from there.

regards,

Greg

Gregh, get a WinXP bootdisc from www.bootdisk.com then bootup with cdrom support, and put tools u need onto the floppy, like scandisk, checkdisk. If you have problems that stop u from booting though, I doubt these tools will fix the problem. Sounds like u maybe have a bootblock or boot loader problem maybe? If its that you should be able to fix from recovery console, command prompt.

The only way you can start a Windwows install from a Windows XP cd (if it is not already bootable) is using the 6 flopy disk set from Microsoft

Yeah, it's a nice tool. A bit of an ar$e to assemble, but you can add pretty much any utility you want to the 'toolbox'.
