Hi,

Wonder if you can help. I have a Yamaha 8track recorder and Cubase VST. I want to record 8tracks into VST, but can't seem to find a 'cost effective' (read cheap !) way of doing it.

I've been looking at the M-Audio Delta 1010 and Terratec EWS88MT's but they're a good few hundred quid.

Anyone any idea's ? Or anyone got an 8-channel input card gathering dust somewhere ?

Well you could go for something like an audiophile 24/96 which gives you 4 in, you could always bounce the tracks on the way in or just go for two passes, not ideal but a 24/96 is alot cheaper than a 10/10. ScoobyDoo555 is your man if hes around.

Reading what you want to do, you're after a card that will do 8 ins (digitally I presume)

So, depending what the output of your yamaha is (YAMAHA AW4416? or YAMAHA AW16G)

OK. For Digital, you've got the option of an ADAT card or Tascam TDIF (ADAT is optical, TDIF is on a D-Sub) this is for the Yamaha

For the PC, you need any card (in your price range that will do ADAT or Tascam) with this digi option.

If it's analogue output from your Yamaha, then it gets a little bit more complicated. Only because you're getting into the minefield of A/D & D/A. Which ones sound better than others etc.....

The other deciding factor is, of course, the bottom line. How much do you want to spend? Does it have to be new?

If used aint a problem, you could look at the MOTU stuff - a 2408mk2 with PCI324 card can be picked up for about £250 used. This will let you transfer up to 24 channels at the same time. I *really* rate this kit

Just had a thought - if it's the workstation with the built-in CDr unit, why not just burn the files on to the CDr (they're in .wav format IIRC) and load into the computer (using "add audio" in the Pool in VST)? Obviously, you'd have to copy them onto the computer HD.....

Because of the lack of digi o/p, this is the cheapest way (apart from slaving and doing multiple passes/transfers!!) A bit of "Old school" recording!!
