Default Why would a PCMCIA card make windows boot up really slow.

Goes like this, got a notebook with XP home, a Dlink DWL650 wireless card. Without the card pluged in windows boots fine, usauly sort of time. When the card is in it take 5 mins for Windows to boot. Once booted the card works, sort of and this might be important, I've got two notebooks both with the same card, same drivers etc, they are sat next to each other, one shows Excellent signal and the dodgy notebook show a poor signal, it does jump up and down wilst the other is stable. Tried the card in other machines, no problems. I've updated the BIOS and the chipset and everything else.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Leigh

I thought this was just me! All my wireless cards behave this way, causing Windows to take ages to boot up (apart from one card and one laptop).

What I do? Boot up XP and then stick the PCMCIA card(s) in.

As for the dodgy card thing, do you think it could be a power issue? Any problems I've had with external things plugging into laptops in the past have been resolved by going into the Control Panel --> System and getting rid of any "Let Windows manage power for this device" things.

Good luck!

Isn't the delay down to XP trying to look for a DHCP server on bootup? Have a look on the MS knowledge base about this n how to turn off the check, if you don't need DHCP of course.
