Question PC100 or PC133 RAM?

Upgrading our old laptop and it says it needs PC100 RAM, can I use PC133 RAM instead?

Yes you can use either - the PC133 is faster (133 MHz), but pc can only go as fast as it can go!

Cheers Pete, looking at 2nd hand 256 modules on Ebay, it's just that there seems to be much more 133 RAM modules available and it seems to be cheaper.

Carefull ! you'll need to get quality pc133 to be sure it runs at 100. some of the early laptops will only take pc100 regardless of quaility. Had this problem myself and took ages to get a memory module that worked (pc100 off ebay)

Double check the Ebay pricing with Crucial

A 128MB PC100 SO-DIMM is £31.99+VAT new. Whack your make and model into the Crucial site and it will tell you which memory is fine. If you follow that, Crucial offer a money back guarentee on what you order works.

I am sorry it seems that I may have misled you, Kevin.

I was just passing on the advice I got from the shop when I bought RAM recently!

Pete,

Don't worry about it, all the 133 stuff I looked at came with money back guarantee anyway, might still end up with 133 stuff. Will check the Crucial site first but pretty sure the Compaq can handle either.
