Question Wireless networks for a beginner - again!

Afternoon everyone,

Im sure this has been done to death in the past but i seem to have failed in finding the search button on this new design...

We currently have 2 pcs connected to the internet via a router plus 2 laptops also connected via cat5 cable to the router but have now decided that it would be a better soloution to have the laptops go wireless.

This is something i have absolutely no knowledge about so bear with me here!

From what i can work out i need a "Wireless Access Point" to plug into the existing router along side the wired connections for the PCs plus a wireless card for each of the 2 laptops.

Now im hoping thats right in theory but where the problem occours is when looking for the kit on dabs/insight/ebay there seems to be such a confusing amount of choice in both brands and from what i can tell, protocols.

Can anyone confirm my theory for me and point me towards some actual products I can look at to save me trawling through dabs with a confused look ok my face!

Cheers in advance

David

Just replace the router and get a couple of cheap(ish) wireless cards.

I have the router above and find it excellent!

Thanks BuRR, does that bit of kit also have space to plug in the 2 PCs which will continue to use CAT5 cable to connect to the net?

Thanks BuRR, you're a star that looks nice and easy Do you have any suggestions from experience on what card to buy for both of the laptops?

I would personally stick with a branded manufacturer, such as Linksys, D-Link, Netgear, 3COM, etc..... as the WEP settings of the generic cards is a bit fiddly.

Have a couple of D-Link 54g cards on mine, and they work a treat.

Default Confused

I am currently totally bewildered too, looking at Dabs etc. I am buying a laptop and want it wireless. I currently have 2 pcs on a 4 port Alcatel 510i adsl router, but I want to keep that router. I'm still not sure exactly what I need, bearing in mind I want to keep router that I already have
