Default Password Protected Zip File

Evening all.

While browsing through some OLD CD's of mine, I came across a zip file which i must have password protected.

must be something useful, but i can't remember the password.

Are there any tools out there that can recover this password?

Thanks in Advance.

Try searching for ZIP crack on www.astalavista.com

Use some kind of brute force dictonary hacker and a fast processor and then leave overnight.

Winzip will still let u view a file list within the zip so you can tell if it's useful.

If you just wanna crack a zip password, let me know if you find some proper software!

Yeah I have used brute force utilities on zip files before, available as per lightning101's link. When the file was compressed is the person... errr I mean are you likely to have used a fairly easy password, or a 20 digit alphanumeric string?

The reason I ask is that if the password is "open" it will be very quick, however if it is "QW~EQ@wWE"2:"234£%~4"%~WWER@:" You are going to be there some time!!!!

The utils I have used allow you to specify base strings for example, if you like using your name and a number in your passwords you can get it to try all permutations of YourName0000 up to YourName9999 etc...

Davie,

Do a search for a program called "Advanced ZIP Password Recovery" - you need to get the full program to be able to crack passwords over 5 letters.

Also has brute force/dictionary options...
