Suprised what I found in my Hotmail Junk email file
.....That shouldn't have been there in the first place. ie today I found 2 emails from a family relative that had has been sent to me before in my normal email file, 1 message from a member of this forum and other bits and pieces that I wouldn't consider junk mail. Now that I think about it I've waited for a couple of quotes that never appeared and now I know why.
They probably ended up in the Junk mail file. Which is auto-emptied after 7 days.
I never before checked the junk file because in my mind thats what it was. Junk. I never thought emails I had replies to would end up there.
I've checked the options and there is no way of switching off the Junk file so I guess I'm going to have to check it every time I check my mail.

I personally have never liked hotmail accounts. I don't like the web based client that you have to use the send e-mails, I don't like the max file limit.
Yes its free but I would (and have) always used an account with another ISP that I hold my internet connection with (Nildram).
I have one hotmail account for messenger and thats it.
Have you considered mentioning to M$? Might be a bug

I don't use hotmail anymore as I have moved to fuzzmail - much better
But anyway your Junk Mail Filter may have been set to Exclusive by the sounds of it, and if I remember corretly you need to go to options and then Junk Mail Filter or Mail Filter or Junk Mail, something like that. This will bring up an option of either off low high or exclusive.
It may also be under block sender in options cannot quite remember
