Slow network performance copying files under WIN-XP.
My work laptop has several albums I've ripped for my MP3 player.
Laptop runs WIN-XP SP1.
Home PC runs WIN-XP.... I can't recall if SP1 is installed.
Laptop will find a share on my home PC and I can start to copy files but it's so painfully slow (maybe 10KBps).
The network is 10MBps through a 10MBps hub. Both PCs have 10/100 MBps network cards.
I've found plenty on the web but most of it seems related to WIN98 and WINXP filesharing.
If all else fails I guess I can boot the home PC under Linux and use FTP but that would be cheating.

Check and force the speed and duplex (if its a hub then should be 10mb, Half Duplex) - yes I know they may be set to Auto but try it
If you have the right driver software then look for collisions reported on each NIC.

Regarding anti-virus, I WILL killing that tonight as I had slow performance previously with AV getting in the way. Thing is, this is a 1.8Ghz mobile Pentium so I'd have thought anti-virus wouldn't have too much impact on the speed.
I'll have a look at the IP set-up tonight. I have found a couple of tweaks on the net. Also some suggestions about bindings etc....
From the lights on the hub, it just looks plain SLOW compared to say, an FTP or SAMBA connection between two Linux systems.
Cheers,
Jeremy.

Now fixed by one of.....
- Shutdown Anti-virus on Work PC.
- Manually configure both NICs to 10MBps 1/2 duplex.
- Turn of Simple file sharing.
- Remove QoS component from home PC.
- Remove old DNS server IP addresses from both systems.
Thanks for the suggestions. I s'pose I should figure what exactly has fixed the problem. If I do so, I'll post it here....
