At long last we are to get BB here in the sticks!
What's the best idea re hardware?

Is it best to get the hardware package along with activation such as Demon are offering or to get a router and install myself?
I know that they normally offer a ADSL modem and not a router, I'm not clear on the main advantages of choosing one over the other.

Bear in mind I know nothing! Well with regard to BB that is.

there are a few way to go if you only ever want to use one pc on BB you just need a ADSL modem, if you may want to use more than on PC/Laptop/Games Console you will need a router, personaly i would go for a hard wired router with built in ADSL modem these are quite cheap not much more than ADSL modem, easy to setup and reliable, there are also wireless option but unless you really need it i would not bother
I'am a network engineer/consultant just seting up in shropshire so if i can help further drop me a email

Cheers

Agree with above comment.

I have had experience of both setups. Only needed router when I got 2pcs

One advantage of router over modem is built in firewall = additional security for no PC resource overhead.

If you know nothing about computers better to go with the Daemon gear because if it doesn't work, its all their kit and they can't weasel their way out of fixing it for you.

Cheers.
