Pls help...all ADSL wireless network gurus!

I subscribe to BT Broadband and a couple of days ago invested in some Netgear stuff. Got the DG834G ADSL wireless router firewall and network cards and wireless PC cards etc. Got it all set up fine and dandy and I can surf the net wirelessly with my laptop around the house and my desktop pc which is attached to the router firewall is working fine.
Then last nite ***POP!!*** my broadband connection dies on me. I call BT and they say its an underground fault and it wont be till saturday before they can fix it. I curse.
Then out of curiosity, tonight, I tried the freebie BT ADSL modem. It bloody works!!
Are there any network boffins out there who can tell me why one moment, my wireless networky thing is fine, the next, it packs in....BUT my BT Broadband connection using my BT ADSL modem is still ok?

I've tried the ole switch off for 15 secs and power on again. No effect. I think that I will do a hard reset later and give it a go.
Wonder why it all went pear shaped in the first place....odd.

A couple of other things to check:
- Can you access the router from your browser?
- Can you see the other PC(s) in My Network Places?
- If you can get into the router, check that your username and password are still present and correct.
Edit: Also try connecting to the router using a patch lead

I cant access the router thru a browser cos it tells me I have no connection to t'internet!
And my pc does see my laptop and I can ping it. I havent successfully set up file sharing yet tho.
And excuse the utter amateur question but what is a patch lead? I got a ethernet cable with the router and I've plugged this into my network card. Is a patch lead some other creature?
