Tungsten T3 + aDSL...How?
#1
Picked up a Palm T3 - awesome little thing and good to be back in some Palm action after my V bit the dust!
Anyway, I've got aDSL at home and the challenge is how can I surf the net on the T3 using this connection...if possible?
I don't think there is a USB input-type adaptor for the Palm so can't connect direct to aDSL modem.
How about a wireless router in aDSL modem and then connect via wireless to the router? Will have to be bluetooth and not sure if I these routers come with bluetooth.
Whatever the option, has to be fairly cost effective...

You will need a Bluetooth-to-Ethernet bridge, either a standalone (expensive) product or you can do it on your Bluetooth enabled PC.
PC connected to ADSL routes traffic to the PDA, via Internet Connection Sharing or similar.
SD WiFi support was non-existant on PalmOS last time I checked as Symbol couldn't manage to write the drivers

Class A, thanks for that!
I haven't set up internet sharing using PC as a router. My aim is that the PC should not see any of the traffic - it can be considered insecure...
PC not bluetooth enabled, but can get a bluetooth card.
Will look in to this in detail and post findings...

Good news if the Palm drivers come through. I had a Palm V a while ago and would love to try one of the newer ARM devices. Palm OS 6 (the one developed with input from the BeOS team) was released to licensees recently as well so things are looking up in the fight against PocketPC!

The Tungsten T3 is super! Once I get the Wi-Fi card, it'll do everything my laptop can do - I even have a wireless keyboard for it! Oh, you can double it up as a GPS navigator and there is a speed camera add-on as well so can be used as a camera detector

I use my TungstenT connected to a bluetooth access point (RedM) at home which is then fed into my Cable Modem router.
The RedM BT AP is expensive but there's plenty of other BT AP's for sale on Ebay around £35.

I've giving up waiting for the SDIO WiFi card, it's been out for a good while now, but still no PalmOS drivers only PocketPC. I've read that the PalmOS SDIO interface is causing problems.

Thanks very much for that, Michael.
The AP has an Ethernet input, how did you connect to the aDSL telephone line?
Edited to add - sorry, just read you are using a cable router, which has an ethernet output, right? Looks like I may need some kind of converter...any ideas?

It depends on the T&C's of you ADSL provider whether you can change the USB Modem they supplied. AFAIK only BT Openworld are fussy about this, if you got a wires only self install then I don't think you;ll have a problem just get yourself a ADSL Router which will have a built in Hub/Switch, then simply connect the BT AP to one of these Ethernet ports.
One of my colleagues bought one of these and has been very happy with it for the price
Ebuyer 4 Port ADSL Modem Router
