I have got a copy of windows for workgroups 3.11 up and running with the exception of the networking components. I have installed tcp/ip to the system and configured it as the default protocol but for some unknown reason the network does not function. Windows help suggests it could be the IRQ settings... or something similar which i cant remember - does anybody know how i find the settings of my network cards in this respect?

is it a new network card?
If so have you tried looking on the manufacturer website to see if there are any drivers for it for win3.11? also it might not be supported on 3.11 if thats the case!

God, this takes me back
Doesn't Win3.11 rely on an NDIS driver, or something like that, and rely on you setting config manually? ISTR that you have to install the card, run some software supplied with the card to configure the card's IRQ, DMA and IO, and then configure Windows.
God only knows why you're doing this, but good luck

Thats true for ISA cards chiark. PCI *should* still sort the IRQ out for itself I think
When I was playing with WFWG networking it was usually in a Novell envrionment so I was using the novell (lsl, odi driver, ipxodi etc) stack.
Think I'd need to be in front of a WFWG machine for it all to come back though

OMFG - it was always 'El B4stardo' to set up when it was current - let along now when everybody had *gladly* forgotten the pains of installing TCP stacks and the such....
You don't like S & M as well do you.....

Perhaps you should take a step back and make sure you can get NetBeui working on that NIC before adding in the (often flaky) IP stack - btw. which version of the IP stack are you using ?
PMSL - Just dug out my "Every useful bit of software you could need" CD from when I was doing this all day every day. Of course that was when you could fit everything you could ever need and more on a single CD (prob written at 2x at most ). Files dates suggest I created it on 8/1/1997 !
Readme for the TCP/IP install I have talks about support on on Compuserve
Now if anyone starts trying to install the Novell Windows95 client suite for fun they need help !

Google is your friend
Avoiding "Error 58" messages with Windows for Workgroups 3.11
Intel Support document
They may well help.
When you need a hand with DECnet or Pathworks configuration, gimme a shout

Seem to remeber having a lot of problems with PCI network cards on WFW preffered to use ISA and manual config IRQ using their jumpers or config.exe on the newer ones.
Try putting the PCI cards in different slots and run the Diags that came with the cards to see if they communicate at that level first.
