A friend of mine has a PS2 and has problems with his PS2 reading certain disks. The disks in question are DVD-R's and they are Traxdata disks (So obviously have a Ritek dye). Some of his disks work and some don't so I asked him to bring three disks for me to try on mine that don't work on his and they ALL work fine on mine. Both machines are chipped with Messiah (His has Messiah 2)
Does this sound like he needs a new laser or is there something that can be tweaked inside his machine?
Any help greatly appreciated as it's driving him nuts!!!
Cheers
Nick

In that case its highly likely that the lasers are different hence the different results, there are a few differnent lasers for different models.
I cleaned mine by dismantling, rubbing a swab soaked in isopropyl alcohol for 15 secs on way then the other. Then dried off with a dry swab. Gave it a blow out with a can of compressed air too for good measure. Then I greased up the rods on which the laser slides. Works much better now and mine struggled to read anything.
