Well I think I am anyway..
I signed up for a freeserve account, the one where you pay for the phone call rather than by direct debit or by CC. I gave an anonymous address and name etc.
It must have changed my IP address anyway because I can now use sites I couldn't use before with my aol account.
Does this mean that the IP is now untraceable?

IP address are ALL traceable. The police (with the assitance of the ISP's) can check and find out who has what IP address etc.
The only way to make sure you don't get caught is dont do anything wrong.

The IP you are assigned when you dial-up to connect will be part of the range assigned to Freeserve customers, so no you won't be anonymous.
It may be that if you aren't using AOL any longer that you aren't using their customised version of IE and are being restricted by parental control.

I don't see how one can be traced if a different name and address is given..
I dont understand IP numbers, I give up..

LMAO Chaos.
Do you think BT don't know which house your phone number is in?
FreeServe also know your phone number and they will log the IP leases against it as you connect.

chaos, you are totally anonymous now.... there is no way you can be traced so go right ahead - just imagine how confused the FBI will be when they try and find you!
