PLasma screen

You will not find a Plasma display of £1000 but you may find a LCD which are crap. LCD have poor colour seperation and definition. You would do better spending the money on a Good CRT. A top of the range CRT has a better picture quality than any plasma. Plasma backlights have been know to only last 3years and are expensive to replace. A good mounting bracket for plasma screen wall fixture is about £100+ also alot of Plasma's don't come with a tuner so this then cost you more if you require one. If you use say SKY of example then would would not need one.
If you go the CRT route then Panasonic make the best screens bar non. Toshiba also have a new set out that is very nice and winning alot of awards. But like I say Panasonic is the best CRT to go for.
What you then need to decide is do you want Dolby PL,PLII or Digital ect. If you are going to run a suround sound system through an amp then save some money and buy a Nicam only TV.

You can get 40 odd inch rear projection screens for about a grand. These are quite pleasing on the eye, sorta look like a cinema screen. But they are huge, all they're gubins are mounted underneath and there's no where to put the PS2, XBox, Cube and Sky+ box, which is why I went for a 32" sony CRT in the end

If you are thinking of using it for playing games via a console you may have problems with a projection TV. Most projection TV's don't like games consoles and usually carry a warning to such affect.

Indirectly and unfortunately I have some dealings with plasma screens, usually 42 or 50 inch.
All I can say is that they would appear very unreliable and once they are out of warranty they are considered as beyond economic repair.
Your mileage may vary but my experiences are based upon quite a large sample size.

I WOULDENT HAVE A PLASMA AT THE MOMENT.
I DONT THINK THE QUALITY QUITE COMES UP TO SCRATCH.
I HAVE A 50 INCH TOSHIBA REAR PROJECTION TV.I GOT IT ABOUT 4 MOTHNS AGO,IT WAS ONLY £1400,AND THE IMAGE IS STUNNING.
IT ALSO HAS A CABANET FOR THE PS2/GAMECUBE/SKY/DVD ECT.
AND THEIR ISNT A PROBLEM WITH PLAYING CONSOLES ON IT EITHER,
JUST MAKE SURE THE CONTRAST IS SET AROUND THE 50% MARK,AND THERE WONT BE A PROBLEM.YOU CANT WATCH IT WITH THE CONTRAST FULLY UP ANYWAY,IT IS FAR TO BRIGHT.

Mmmm
Can't say I like the image regardless of source i.e. SKY, DVD whatever . . .
To many motion artifacts etc.... Classic problems I have seen football matches red shirts on green pitch lots of smearing !
Blue sky in film camera pans and there is a strange staining on the screen which does not follow - Weird problem
Personally sticking with 32" Sony CRT TV and Kids DVD's and a DLP projector for evening DVD viewing
I think pana 36" would be the best bet at the mo £1660 + £50 delivery from Empire Direct, but tis the sale season so get ringing ( John Lewis offer a 5 year guarantee on TV's but I don't know if this applies to Plasma units )
