I have a mirror'd paid of 30gb Diamond Maxtor ATA133s in my server.
One of them appears to have got its knickers in a twist and is reporting to the Smartsoft software that it is a 40gb drive! This has caused a critical failure of the mirror and although it booted coupla days ago, when I shut it down tonight, it won't boot any longer (after messages etc)
I take it that my reporting 40gb drive is but so much junk? Or can I fix it? Would I be able to recover data from it if everything (else) goes Pete Tong?
I'll obviously have to get a new drive, drop it in and get it to rebuild the array. Big pain. Anyone had probs with this before?
Believe it or not, I've never had a mirror fail on me before (normally hardware ones admittedly) but in theory, I could take the good drive & boot from it? Just got a feeling that something else has gone wrong with the "good" drive and its no longer bootable
No indications in the Smartsoft setup that it is & obviously it now won't, whereas it did a couple of days ago.
Gah

Have you added any new Hardware/ Software recently. Esp BIOS upgrades and the like?. If you have try removing/downgrading.
Have a look on Googles newsgroups search if any other peeps have had the same problem.
Check MSI's website to see if any updates are out for your board which might help.

PHEW

1 NEW 40Gb HDD
Installed & followed prompt to re-build array
& IT DID SO

Only took a couple of minutes, then re-booted perfectly
1 Happy & Relieved Bunny

As for HDD that has lasted 1 year & 10 days
Might try & see if they'll replace under warranty, but not hopeful
It has been up 24/7/365 during this time (well other than a few shut-downs for maintenance) but I have 5yr old drives who have done the same all their lives....

Yup
I *may* swop the 30Gb out for a 40 & upgrade that way but the partition size is what its working on. Question is, if after putting the 2nd new hdd in, I can utilise that space as an extra mirrored partition.
