Question

Want to get a few domain names set up for my kids so they can have their own websites with their names on them.
Where, how and how much does this cost.

ie how much would it cost me to register as myname.co.uk

Cheers

How old are your kids? Something to be aware of...

It's more of a problem with a .com or .net, but the normal practise for a domain registration is that the registrants address be logged against the domain. Thus a WHOIS search will then show their details, so it is possible to find out a home address of a person if they don't take steps to avoid this.

Nominet who look after all domains that end in .uk will allow private individuals to have their details hidden.

Might be worth asking the ISP to register the domain in your name but to their offices. My domain name shows the address of my ISP.

HTH,

Chris.

If you are not a business, you can opt out of the who-is register that is available to everyone. Im with dotster.com and they have a special button that takes you off the register.

Be aware though, the cheapest domain registration company's are not always the best. If they go down the pan, you have trouble moving your domain around.

Thumbs up

http://uk2.net

Register 10 co.uk domains and get them for £0.01 each per month!! UK2 are well established and it can all be set up easily online. Do note that, although they offer a reliable service backed up by a massive infrastructure and it's easy to set it up and change your settings online, they offer NO telephone support.

However, if you can get a web site set up on free web space and you can follow UK2's help pages about what mail forwarding and web forwarding means, then spending a couple of quid and getting 10 domains for it is good for most people. I would recommend them to anyone.

That would be UK2's 'Admin Fee' to release the domain to another company.
