Unhappy

I've just bought a Netgear dg834g wireless router with built in modem.

How many wireless cards can be used at the same time with the Netgear. We've found one wireless card works perfect with no dropped connections, but the other 2 drop connection, every 10-20 mins or so (all 3 are 10 feet from router)

Is there anything i can change in the settings??

Btw the cards are 11mbps and are brand new and software has been reinstalled a couple of times without making any difference.

Up to 253 LAN users

Suggest you swap the network cards around to see if they all work in one particular PC or if the problem moves with the cards.

I use the NG824m with 3 devices, one of which is a PDA and have zero trouble.

These things are affected very badly by interference from other wireless devices, typically Digi senders and dect phones. You can try adjusting the channel number on the router to see if it makes a difference, try winding it up to 10.

As an example I have a digi sender in my house, and on channels 1-4 I cannot connect wireless if I am more than a couple of metres from the device. I use it on channel 10. Even then I have a microwave within 3 foot of one of my computers and when it's running the connection goes, though I do wonder exactly what this microwave is leaking out to do that

Oooh, and flourescent lights and stuff these affect the router themself if the router is placed within close proximity of them.

I've had the same problem, it kept dropping the connection.
I called their technical support, they told me to try swapping certain stuff (which i had already done). Then told me to return it to get it replaced.
Gods know how long it will take to come back over Xmas..

nicko13uk - your problem is a firmware issue!!! NETGEAR tech are known to replace products without really troubleshooting it first!

The latest firmware for the DG834 series resolves connectivity problems. However, its only recommend to upgrade your router to this firmware IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ROUTER! Otherwise if it isn’t broke then don't fix it

Hi RoadRunner,

I upgraded the firmware to 1.03 before i called them. It still did it at least once afterwards, thats when i called them.
I also had trouble connecting my VPN into work through that router too, so thought it may well be duff. I've got a DG824M too, and had none of these problems with that.

Any further ideas gratefully recieved though before i send it back!!
