**help Lost files on hard drive ???***
#1
Help cant acces files on a hard drive i use for backup.
I had a recent crash and sent my machine minus the back up drive to be repaired.
They have got me up and running so i reinstalled my old backup drive and it now show as no flies present.
I think it may be something to do with NTFS formatting on the main system drive ???.
the back up drive has not been fromatted but still refuses to show any files present.
Not keeen on sending it to repairers as they can be a bit mercanry about formatting any drive with problems ( hence removing the back up drive).
need help as there are some large video files from my wedding and i dont want to have to re edit them all.
forgot to mention system is windows XP
are these file restoring programs any good ?????

DO you mean whole drive is invisible (ie, is not given a drive letter) or does it get assigned a drive letter but you can't see any files?
Take a look at the Disk Maangement app (right click on My Computer and select Manage in WinXP) - you may have to mount the volume.

yes the drive has been assigned a letter if I remember i think it took a couple of reboots for the bios to pick it up but other wise it is operating normally but is showing around 95 % free when i know there is about 40 gig of files on there.
Didnt know about disk management will check on it when i get home

You should be able to mix NTFS and FAT32 drives. Worth checking that the jumpers are set correctly, as I believe that if one drive on a cable has been set to Cable Select (CS) then both must be.

checked jumpers and they are on slave and master i remember i had trouble with cable select so left it like this.
Done a quick scan with system restore 2000 and there are files there but it wont pick up files bigger than 1 gig.
