Windows 2000 Server Password?
#1
Hello
I need to get into a server before 3.30pm today The guy that set the server up no longer works here and im left in the crap after i just had to reset it lol. I have tried using a linux bootdisk that resets the admin password but it does not work. To make life more difficult it has 3 operating systems on it, god knows why.
My e-mail address is in my profile if you dont want to post anything on here.
Cheers

The Linux diskette should work, but you need to select the correct partition since it has multiple OS's.
I assume it's a stand-alone server or no-one has domain admin rights to reset the password?

I assume it found the partition and loaded the SAM database for you to modify the password?
Are no other user accounts a member of the local admins group?
What other OS's are installed?

It has:
1. Windows 2000 server
2. Windows 2000
3. XP Pro
God knows what the guy was thinking putting all that on there. To make things worse think he has done a runner with the windows 2000 server cd.

Make sure you're picking the right partition (listed as the various hda's under Linux). You could easily be resetting the Windows 2000 or XP admin passwords.
I'm not a Linux person, so I'm not sure how you determine which one is correct. I would try them all if it's lists a whole bunch of choices.
I'm assumming it gets that far though. It boots, you pick the disk, it finds the database and asks which account to reset (default is administrator) - yes?
