Question

Using my dads machine.....

P4 2.5
512mb
Win XP
IE 6.08

Got a problem with hyperlinks and thumbnails, wherever I go to a site ie SIDC and try to naviagate to the forums (without using the direct link) but using the hyperlink, the hour glass comes up and the main page eventually refreshes for no reason, the hyperlink does not work or open a new window.

Its also as bad for any websites that involve clicking on an image to enter a site for some reason.

Was working the other day, afaik no changes have been made, have tried uninstalling IE and installing the latest version from microshaft but no avail.

Any ideas as i'm most confused....

Weird. Could try checking the pc for any spyware (one such prog buggered my IE up the other day, though it had different symptoms to what you have stated). Use Adaware 6 and SpyBot for this. Also run a full virus scan.

Other than that, have you tried using a different browser, like Firebird perhaps?

I assume you have updated IE via Windows Update, in case there have been any patches released recently?

Finally, check on the M$ knowledge base pages for such symptoms - might get lucky with one of the patches.

Yes mate, very weird.

Tried Adaware 6 and Spybot but there is no change, tho they did delete some hidden programs which is good.

Afaik Windows update has not been run for 6 weeks or so, so not sure that they have caused it, it seems only the past week or so that its got this bizarre behaviour.

Tried the Microshaft Knowledge Base but nothing.

Have you got a s/w firewall that has been updated recently? I have Norton, and it causes some web pages to behave strangely, in that it prevent things from appearing in the main, believing them to be adverts etc.

Errmm (struggling now...) clear the files, history etc, to refresh completely? Reset the settings in IE Options to default?

Which web pages are causing the fault - I can have a look to see if the problem is within the page perhaps?

Hi mate,

Nope, got Zone Alarm, but it still does it with ZA installed or uninstalled.

Also uninstalled Ads Gone last night as heard that may be the problem source, but it still does it.

Bizarre thing it was working fine up until a week or so ago, no updates for anything afaik took place...

Anything with Hyperlinks or Images for example if I go to the SIDC site and then click on the Forums hyperlink, it bombs.

If I go to www.overclockers.co.uk and select any of the images for categories it bombs.

Also if I get a Scoobynet notification into my Yahoo I get problems too.

Btw, all of these problems do not happen on my machine or at work so I know the links work.

Royal pain in the @ss

Tried re-setting the Internet options to default too, that didnt work, now resorting to banging my head against the desk lol.

Sounds a bit like one of the symptoms of the blaster worm. I presume you tried an up to date virus scan?

John.
