Question

I have a Silver PS2 arriving on Santas sleigh soon and was looking for the best selection of games to have?

I am elderly, male and don't really go for Fighting Games (like Tekken style stuff)

I have 2 games coming with the PS2:-

Medal of Honour - Frontline .... and ...
Desert Storm

I would like the best Car racing game and the best Footy game - I have FIFA on the PS1 and like the real names, but find the controls complicated.

so, I have 2 war type games - I need advice on a Football Game and maybe 2 car racing games, plus other types that might be good? I was thinking of MaxPayne now that its very cheap - any good?

Also, don't laugh, whats the best gun? and is Gunfighter, Jesse James good or really sad?

WRC3 is very realistic and a great game if your into real rally style games.

ratchet and clank 2 is a good game, platform style.

the only game shooters using gun I ever played was the time crisis series.

Suspect the gf is getting me return of the king, hoping that will be good.

Jon

I've got CM2 on the pc and it is stunning

I'm not too sure I would be better off with CM4 on a console? The pc, with a decent graphics card, rather spoils you doen't it?

Whats the best footy game then anyone?

look for the latest in the Pro Evolution series 3 or 4 I think

Driving has to be GT3 or 4 when it get's here.

all the best games on PS2 have bee out for a long time, save a fortune and get down to the preowned bin in the local Game

Craig.

Posh, did you get the PES3 update?

I'd like to buy it just for the name updates, but dont want all those "free money", "free transfers" cheats as well - can you just apply the name update, and are they realistic?

Suggestions....

CM4 - excellent graphically but limited staying power as games go (IMO)
GT3 - a must have, as simple as that (unless GT4 is out)

However, Grand Theft Auto 3 (Vice City) is without doubt the best game I have ever played. The driving is fun rather than technically challenging but difficult none the less. Warning: as well as losing several months of your life you will also untrain yourself from "proper" driving games if you play this too much. - not suitable for children! Go buy it!!!

The original GTA3 is also good but not as good as Vice City IMO. But its the scope of these games you have to appreciate. So much space to explore and things to do. You can just wander about exploring and ignore the missions and still have fun. For any other GTA3 players on here.... Who has found the sign saying "You should not have been able to get here"?

Getaway (which I did not like) might appeal if you would prefer something a little darker and even more violent and unpleasant that GTA3.

All First person Shooters are S*** on any game console. You can only play these games if you have a mouse. If you have a PC stick with this for the shooters. If you don't agree with me, just ask any of the folks on here, who play counterstrike, how long they would last in a game using only the keyboard. One exception to this is the Tomb Raider ones, which were not based around a mouse on the PC and play surprisingly well. Should also be availabe cheaply by now.

I don't like sports games so can't advise on a good footy game.

Most "Sim" or "Tycoon" type games would probably run well on PS2 although I prefer to play these on PC. If available for the PS2, Sim City 4, Rollercoaster Tycoon and Railroad Tycoon are all good and will remove vast swathes of your life you could much better spend drinking or socialising. The latter two are probably bargain bucket titles by now. "Theme Hospital" is a laugh if you're not into serious sim games. "The Sims" may be for you if you always fancied a dolls house as a kid but thought it was too sissy

My experience of all games based on films is that they have been pants the most recent example I can think of is the lord of the rings one which was indeed pants (IMO).

So in summary ask santa for GTA3 - Vice City and GT3.

Cheers

I see woolies are doing GTA3 AND Vice City as a pack ( both games ) for £29:99 ............ and you get to choose another game up to that price free!! Could be the way to go!

I would take issue with your statement about 1st person being **** on a console ............. I remember being scared crapless when playing DOOM for the very first time on the PS1 ...... it was outstanding I reckon - and what about the Medal of Honour series? Maybe what you mean is 'on-line' 1st person games?

Good report though - cheers!

Ahhhh Yes!

The original Doom!! Also not playable with Mouse on the PC IIRC. Or even older than that, the original Wonfenstein 3D!.... now who's showing their age?

I too remember Cra**ing myself playing that the first time.

But I also remember that some of the quicker monsters, if they managed to sneak up behind you, had usually had a good chew at you before you could turn round and stick a BFG down their throats because you could only turn round slowly with the keyboard.

I have Medal of Honour for the PC (mouse enabled) and still think its pants. Which is odd cos I know many folks think its the nads!

I also have Timesplitters for the PS2 which is the only shooter I've played much on the this platform. Definately a bargain bucket title nowadays. Not bad in two player mode as you're both equally handicapped by the controls.

Cheers

I still have a PS2 but its a bit old hat now, isnt it. XBox is where its at. I still play Burnout 2 on the PS, although your reaction times might be a bit slow for that one
