PS2 mod chips
#1
What is the best available? one of my friends is after one, and since I do not have a PS2 I have never looked. One from a few years ago I remember being good was the Messiah - is this still around, is this still the best?
also, what is the easiest to install?
Please list the best modchip if it is different to the easiest one btw - and what the main differeces are, or you can point to a website comparing ones available.
Thanks in advance.

Only go for the Messiah 2!!!!
Best on the market without the hassle of swopping etc etc
However, i would get someone pro to fit as its about 12 wires that requires soldering.

BL introduced me to the guy who did mine. Luckily he is very local, so no need to send the PS2 all over the place! Do you want me to email you his number Christian??
Messiah 2 is for the newer machines and I thought that needed the tray opened and closed, along with power button combinations to get it to work. Although that might be due the the firmware revisions, rather than the chip itself!
I (am almost 100% sure that I) have a the original Messiah chip in mine and there is no disk swapping, and it's whether you click the power button once or twice depending on the type of disc you want to read.

You guys probably know this anyway, but there's a 25 squid plastic tool, with boot disk; which achieves the same thing as a modchip.
You remove the front of the drive cover, boot the custom os disk, flip the release latch using the tool to remove the tray when prompted to swap disks and put in your 'legal backup' and close it again.
Search on google or whatever for 'ps2 slide tool'

Stanmo : nope I didn't I will have a look and read about it for my friend.
Andy : that would be great thanks, encase the option above doesn't work. What happens though if he blows up the ps2, does he get you a new one? this is what my friend was worried about.

Although you can buy the chip. I definitely recommend you to get a professional installation that if something was to go wrong you'd be covered.
PS id stay clear of boot discs as they are a pain in the backside.
