software/filters to make web/email kid safe?

my seven yr old is starting to use the net...searches on goggle for homework and sending mates emails etc.
what software/filters can i use so that she doesnt misspell something on a goggle search and end up with 10,000 iffy sites?
equally, can i stop spam if i set up her own email account? in theory her email address wont ever get on the net but no doubt stuff will get through (anything will be read by us but i dont want to risk her opening something that pops up while shes on and its spam crap)

http://www.yahooligans.com/ is a yahoo search engine designed for kids, set up email with action that unless person emailing is in your daughters contact list it get deleted
