I'm pretty certain that you cannot use both USB and Ethernet simultaneously - it has to be one or the other.
Edit: I stand corrected on that point, as a trip to the Netgear site revealed that this can be used for USB or Ethernet, or both.

The USB has to be used for the fixed pc, the ethernet connection is used by the wireless access point.
The problem I'm having is setting up the modem router, I'm supposed to configue via a web browser (using IE6) but it cant find the router address?
I will try the netgear website for the latest firmware...
fingers crossed

Still not got it sorted
Even tried using ethernet onto my laptop (the other pc doesnt have ethernet) and its still not working.
It just wont let me talk to the modem to configue it using IE as a browser, but I dont know why
I'm wishing I'd not bought it now... never had a problem setting up my speedtouch broadband modem, but this Netgear junk is just NOT user friendly at all.
I'm off to bed before a throw it through the window and run over it a dozen times

Got a Netgear DM602 ADSL Modem Router which has USB and ethernet connections.
Want to use the USB to connect to the main PC in the house. I have the WG602 Wireless access point to connect to the ethernet port for wireless on my laptop (have a WG511 wireless pc card for my laptop to do this)
Started to set up the modem router first but having big probs trying to get it to work on the main pc.
Is anyone on scoobynet using Netgear successfully?
Having spent the past 2 1/2 hours trying to get the bl00dy thing to work I'm now a little bit p!ssed off with it . . .

Is your PC on the same subnet (NOT the same network).
IIRC, the default address for Netgear is 192.168.0.1/24 (it's a while since I used one). Your PC should be a similar address, for example 192.168.0.2
(/24 is subnet mask 255.255.255.0)

I'm probably making some obvious mistake but I dont know what...
I've followed the instructions exactly, but when I open up IE6 then type in the address I'm instructed to (http://192.168.0.1)then enter, IE6 says the page is not available offline and wants to connect to the internet via my dial up connection. But from what I understand from the instructions, the address is the address of the modem router so isnt on the web?
Am I wrong in doing it this way?
There is an update on Netgears website that I will try shortly...

i think your problem is your pc thinks it's still on a dial up, you need to go to...
Start -> Control panel -> Network connections -> then click the setup a home or small office network, one of the first option is how do you connect to internet, you need the residual gateway option.

Netgear routers are factory set as 192.168.0.1 with a web-like interface to set them up. You need to ensure the router is correctly installed (with USB drivers if required) and powered up before attempting to access it. To prevent IE trying to dial up, Click Tools > Internet Options > Connections Tab. About 1/2 way down are some radio buttons, Click the top one 'Never dial a connection' then Apply/OK.
BTW, did you install the USB drivers before connecting the USB cable to the PC? If not, that may the reason you are having difficulty. Check to ensure the router is listed in the USB section of the Device Manager.

Bob, what's the netwrok set up on your PC, i.e. what IP address etc does it have, is it set to use DHCP or static?
Type "ipconfig /all" at a command (ms-dos) prompt and show us the output if you're not sure

Thanks for the help so far... I was a little stressed last night!
On the pc I want to set it up on usb I have restored the system to before trying to install this, so typing "ipconfig /all" brings up:
------------------------------------------------------------------
IP Configuration:
Host Name............: HOME1
Primary Dns Suffix...: (Blank)
Node Type............: Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled...: No
WINS Proxy Enabled...: No
LAN:
Description.........................: WAN NEtwork Driver
Physical Address....................: 00-**-**-**-**-11
Dhcp enabled........................: Yes
Autoconfig Enabled..................: Yes
Autoconfig IP Address...............: 169.***.***.152
Subnet Mask.........................: 255.***.*.0
Default Gateway.....................: (Blank)
------------------------------------------------------------------
On my laptop its different and also has the Default Gateway filled in and DNS servers Address.
The problem I have is that I know NOTHING about setting up a home network etc and was relying on the instructions supplied with the Netgear equipment to sort it. But it appears the Netgear instructions tell you **** all.
What I need is step by step instructions on what exactly to do!
I only went for this equipment so that I had wireless internet with my laptop, and the ability to add further wireless pc's later.
Bob
EDIT to add that the ***'s are in place of the numbers just incase its a no no giving out the real ones?

Right, I re-installed the USB driver from scratch and rechecked the ipconfig and got new data.
I noticed that there was a default gateway address very similar to the 192.168.0.1 which is 192.168.0.254 so I tried this and BINGO!
I am now talking to the modem router, and it appears that the usb addy is different!
Still not fully sorted tho' . . .
Need to find out the "Multiplexing Method" (VC or LLC) and the numbers for the Virtual "Circuits" a VPI number between 0 and 255 and VCI between 1 and 65535 that my ISP uses ( I'm on Virgin Broadband)
How do I find these out?
Or are the common to Virgin and does someone have them???
Thanks for the help so far from a slightly less stressed out BOB

Still not found out the VC or LLC, and VPI & VCI details from Virgin.
Wish I'd gone to Broadbandbuyer first as they appear to be a good place to buy from!
