Having failed to solve my other problem of minimized windows lets try another one.

My PC does not show smilies and other small .gif files as animated, just static. The IE options are set to show animations and I can't think of any other reason why they don't animate.

Previews of the gif files in Explorer show up animated so I assume the fault lies with IE6.

Anyone have any ideas?

It may also be blocked by a firewall, ad-blocker, or other content-control software. Got anything else like that running?

Hmmm, I've got ZoneAlarm running as well as a pop-up ad killer but that's it. Might zonealarm be stopping them? Like I said the image appears but it just doesn't animate...

I would try a different browser and turn off the firewall to check.
