CF is much much cheaper than SD so probably your best bet. However, devices can plug into the CF slot but not the SD slot, such as network cards, modems, GPS cards etc.
Basically if money is not such an issue and your likely to be adding a card for some sort of functionality then go for the SD, whereas if money's more of an issue, go for the CF.
Once you've got one, make sure you install all applications to the card instead of the device, this then frees up more memory for running apps.

By the way, if you plan to use the unit for games, there are some top games about now. AstraWare is a good place to start, you can download most of their games as demo and buy them if you want them.
If your in to Strategy, Age of Empires Gold Edition is absolutely fantsatic on the PDA.

I just got an Axim nice and cheap so have been looking at getting extra bits, definately going for CF 256mb card.
Only got PPC 2002 though so might upgrade to 2003, is it worth it? Also whatr else is recommended for use on a ppc?
Oh and the first thing I did was download some nice pics off of www.pocketthemes.com Cracking!

Dave,
The blue thing in the top of your ipaq is a 128MB SD card, I didn't take it out! It you want to buy the NavMan off me then it has a CF socket which will give you both memory options.
