I've heard tell of these 5 pass file deletion apps but I can't pin down a name.

Does anyone know?

I use http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/ and choose 7 times for things I wouldn't like to be recovered...

PGPmail includes a tool for this.

It is included in the freeware version that is available for individual, non-commercial use.

the proggie that Boxt mentioned is one of the best, you can plump for merely the 7 pass american DOD method or go for the 35(!) pass method (I forget the name).
