unusual error message
#1
I am running a m8's pc (xp home)at the side of mine and because it is not connected to the net it has come up with an error message as follows:
on the 'blue bar' across the top of the pop up it says '****'
then underneath 'connection failure' and 'ok' to close the box.
There are several problems with the machine, mostly related to the IE 6 it is running; home page does not come up on log in, you just get lots of pop ups and on google search engine when you do a search it is bringing up adverts (e bay etc) rather than web pages!
Also the machine is running very slowly. I istalled Norton AV on Saturday night on it and it showed no virus present although it seems to me that there must be a rouge programme or virus on it somewhere!
Any ideas please?
Ken

Have you run any other AV software? Or maybe some adware scanners would be useful. Try here http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/threa...hreadid=252664
A good free on-line virus checker is www.ravantivirus.com
Run it and see what it shows. some viruses can actually disable AV software.
Hope this helps

cheers
I have been doing a little research on this and i believe the changing hompage issue is to do with a virus called VBS.PassOn wich the curent version of Norton should recognise but isn't doing just yet! In fact, the scan has just finished and it hasn't shown it up again!
I will have a look at the others you recommend.
Thanks
