What would you say is the best card to get? Looking for more power as currently have Geforce 2 GTS 64mb and wanna play Half Life 2 etc in full glory. Running an athlon xp 1.8 with 756mb of ddr at the mo so the gfx card is kinda letting me down.

Simon.

P.S. Yes its gotta be Nvidia as had big probs with ATI Radeon 9500 pro so dont fancy going back.

then you're certainly not going to want an Nvidia card.

see here http://www.fragland.net/index.php?pa...sitem&nid=5597 but loads more info if you search.

Sorry, I thought you knew tht all FX series Nvidia cards are going to take heavy losses in the fully DX9 games coming out. Doom3 for instance, which for a long time was touted as being Nvidia's game, is stated as being well behind the ATI's by the head honcho of the game, John Carmack.

im sure there was a bench mark on toms hardware for fx5900 and 9800 pro for halflife 2 and the fx could just manage half the frames of the 9800pro, so if a fx5900 is pretty poor whats say a fx5600 going to be like, id go on ebay and buy the 9700 think you can get new for £150

Is there a lot of difference between 9700 and 9700 pro?

Simon i am so gonna slap your head when i see you next!!

Wanting to throw money at a NV card is a CRIME! Not to mention you clearly did not do your research mate. NV cards are utter pants for DX9 and HL2 etc. A 9600 pro > 5900U which is 400 quid flagship.

You can pick up a 9700 pro from overclockers members market for like 170 quid if not buy a 9600 pro for 125 quid from overclockers.

Dude I bought a fecking 9500 pro a few months back and the ****** didnt work full stop - not in 3 diff PC's. So I sent the POS back. That was the only reason for going NV. I have now learnt the error of my ways

Simon.

P.S. You sold the P1 yet? My scoobs been gone 3 weeks now

Si,

No P1 for sale still at 16,995. Getting pissed off over whole thing.

You clearly didn't use driver cleaner when you installed the ATI drivers, sometimes you need to format for a proper fresh start for the ATI card. Dont worry though once you go ATI you wont go back

Dude I aint a complete spastic. The card wouldnt even display the BIOS and POST screens in a readible format - thats before any driver comes into play. Yes I did have the power connector hooked up to the psu.

Probably just unlucky but when its your first ATI buy it kinda puts you off buying another. Got a full refund even though I asked for a replacement. Never bothered buying another card as used the cash for something else. Now back on the market ready for HL2, D3 etc.

I know what you mean about selling the car. Might be worth emailing this guy who buys scoobs trade. He offered me £1k less than what I was asking for but if you need the sale....
