Question

Just got a new PC

downloaded all the updates and installed Norton Security Proffesional

Windows now doesn't turnoff

You get left at the Windows is shutting down screen [Like 98 used to do]

Not sure what to do as I have installed all the updates

Phil, have you tried system restore?

I updated some windows updates yesterday and my display went wonky, in the end i restored previous settings.

Then update seperately and see which one is causing you the problem.

I only turned the machine on 5 mins before updating


Perhaps i'll give it ago any way

There are a number of applications that prevent XP from shutting down, for example installing intellimouse software causes it to stop closing. Not a direct answer to your problem but a search on google will point you in the right direction
