Question

I don't really fancy the idea of having a length of cable permamenently trailing from my phone socket (downstairs) to my home network upstairs.

Can I treat it as I would with a standard analogue connection and remove it from my modem at the end of each session without causing problems?

I plan to run to Alcatel Speedtouch to a Smoothwall firewall.

You could, without any problem, but wouldn't you be better off adding a telephone extension point upstairs?

Valid point Figment, but I'm just looking at the easiest way around the problem for now.

Thanks for the response.

I had though of that, but what sort of drop in speed will I get trying to pick up a connection through a floor and several walls.....?
