Question

Can anyone recommend a cheap NIC (or 2) to use with the 'home' i.e non-corporate version?

Try IPCOP - free, and always will be free. See http://www.ipcop.org for more info.

Anything that's NE2000 compatible works as I believe most adaptors are supported. Certainly the embedded realtek controller on my rather "esoteric" single board computer is supported, as are 3com cards (I've used 3c509 or something like that)... I'm hoping that the PC/104 module that I've just bought will also be supported - I'll let you know.

Cheers,
Nick.
