OK have had this pc for 2 years, only really use it to run 2 online games, everquest and counter-strike. Until recently it ran fine, now in games i get juddery / bad fps. This is not an issue with my connection, i am on a 1meg line and have had that checked thouroughly.

I have an amd 1gig processor, 512mb ddr ram, 30 gig still left on the hard drive.

Some things that I have neglected to do, update windows (at all) for somereason my pc wont run the updates (not sure if this is to do with the ntl browser and netscape running on the machine).

Im running a radeon 7200 graphics card, i really cant narrow down the problem, knowing me its probably a lot of things.

I dont see the point in spending £300+ on new hardware for the pc when realistically u could go buy a new pc for 1500, that will run all the new up coming games, doom 3 etc.

Any of you bright sparks have any ideas?

run an a/v program like avg v6 (it free from their website
www.grisoft.com

then run a decent defragger like PerfectDisk or Diskeeper.
these make a huge difference to file access.

other than that, you might want to clean up temp files, temp internet files, and remove ant dubious videos (send them to me if unsure!!)

all the best

lol cheers, had the option to take my pc into a small shop for them to "look at" but thought about all the 'personal items' that i cant find or delete :P

last time i defragged this, i had to run through safe mode as normal mode tried for 4 days and just kept restarting

dazza, 1 meg line great for downloading, patches :P oh yeah and videos

Defrag will only run completely in safe mode as the first stage of the defrag is to take a snapshot of the drive content so that it knows what it has to do. Everytime something accesses the hard drive, the snapshot has to be re-taken, forcing defrag to start over.
