Untitled Bitmap prob?

this is probably a doddle for someone but I'm getting miffed with XP trying to save any graphics files as bitmaps with "untitled" filename when I know it's a jpg etc - any ideas? associations?
secondly, how can I return to search results screen without having to refresh & click a text / error box - I'm sure it used to just go back a page...
