Question

Downloaded McAfee virus scan enterprise V7.0 and have carried out the latest update. How do I know if I'm covered for the Worm virus and the latest Sobig viruses. Can't seem to find the info anywhere. According to the McAfee webpage you can also download a stand alone stinger to detect these viruses - I thought they'd be included in the latest download.

DAT version 4287 or newer will handle SoBig.f@MM. DATs since 4283 have found Lovesan (aka Blaster).

Do you have VSE set to scan e-mails?

Also, a firewall is your first line of defence against Lovesan (not to mention you've patched MS03-26 by now... haven't you?)

Thanks Chris, just discovered where to find the version number so I'm ok. Zonealarm is installed so should be ok there. Haven't downloaded the patch, where's best place to get it from, 2 PC's, 1 Win2000 and one XP Pro.
Have set VSE to scan emails, thought there may be a 'scan now' option as there is for the hard drive but can't see anything - presume it does this automatically as outlook sends and receives?

That's a good point Jack, I didn't notice that the first time I read it.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/MS03-026.asp has links to the patches for XP and 2000. Or grab it via Windows Update which will list it as "Buffer Overrun In RPC Interface Could Allow Code Execution (823980)". If WU doesn't offer it as a download, you already have downloaded it.

Cool

Dowloaded from McAfee - my company is a corporate customer and we get a free copy for our home PC's. We get a code to download the program direct

Cool. When you click Update watch the dialogue and you'll see a message that says you're running the latest DAT's and Engine.
