TOP GEAR MAGAZINE - Scooby Crime Article - Help Needed
#1
Hi All
About a week ago a researcher for Top Gear asked if we could assist him in the making of an article on Scooby Crime.
Unfortunately his request was a little short in description and caused a large backlash from people saying "There's no way we're gonna help you write a negative article about our cars", etc.
Since then I have been in deep discussion with him and Top Gear to offer our complete and total support on the condition that the article will show a genuinely balanced view.
In particular they now intend to make a big thing about how scoobynet members are protecting their cars, how we have discussed security issues over the years, our ideas and thoughts on the issue and advice to the rest of the Scooby world.
I have a written statement (from Kevin Blick - Editor of Top Gear Magazine) that assures us that our efforts will not be sensationalised and that they genuinely intend to make the article as much about the positive aspects of the steps you can take to secure your car as it will be about the genuine unfortunate aspects of crime that surround us every day.
This is just the beginning and it has taken Nick, Kevin Blick and I many many conversations and a LOT of time to come to this agreement in order to protect us, and I am incredibly grateful to them for being willing to offer the assurances they have.
In return for this we should offer them as much support as we can. So we need the following...
1) Individuals who have been unfortunate enough to have their cars stolen. Especially if your car has then been used for a further crime. **As I said. We have a written assurance that you will NOT be sensationalised** and you can stay anonymous if you would prefer. These experiences will appear as case studies.
2) As much security and protection advice as possible. We have the oportunity to reach tens of THOUSANDS of impreza owners and help to make them aware of the ways we can all protect ourselves and our cars. This is actually an opportunity to alter the amount of scooby theft that happens.
If you are unsure or concerned about anything, don't hesitate to email me. I will not pass on ANY information unless you want me to.
This is a real opportunity to make a big difference, so let's be as positive as possible.
All the best
Simon

It has been pointed out that I may not have been clear on one point...
when I said "they now intend to make a big thing about how scoobynet members are protecting their cars", I meant in terms of general advice... Not "well they connect X to Y so if you want to disable it, you need to disconnect Z", etc...
This will be more "I use tracker because x", "I don't use tracker because Y". I use an immobiliser, but I have a turbo timer, which means Z".
etc
Cheers

Hi All
Thank you for all the emails, we've got a whole hill of positive information coming in so, way I see, the more we can supply, the more positve the article will be.
So keep it coming.
We still need more of the same.
Cheers
