Its not spyware! Its done by ip address which unless you have a firewall your pc will be broadcasting across the internet via icmp. The companines just send the messages to all available ip addresses!!! Only 2 ways to stop it, disable the messenger service or block/configure icmp on your firewall.

Why on earth does this process manage to proliferate everywhere even when it is killed? I do get reports when trying to shut down messenger that it is being used by another process but **** Bill Gates when I say die I mean die!
Is it Big Brother?

Best way to disable it from running
Start > run ? gpedit.msc
Under Computer configuration
Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Messenger > Enable both options on the right
disables it from running :-)

The messages that pop up with "Messenger Services" in the caption bar are nothing to do with MSN Messenger. I emailed and got a reply from the guys at MSN who gave me some solutions to try.
As soon as I installed XP I started getting a few, but a really c*nt of one from www.endads.com advertising for you to buy something to stop the annoying pop-ups (of which they were the worst by far). I would go as far as to say they are blackmailing you into buying their pop-up killer.
I changed my firewall to Zone Alarm and got rid of them once and forall. The XP firewall stops them too, but it stops almost everything else as well. Alternatively go back to Win 2000.

It's possible you may have some spyware hiding on your system. We have had things like this at our site, you can kill the app in the registry but it re-creates itself.
There is an application called 'hijackThis' by Soeperman Enterprises Ltd, which will scan your system and detect any spyware.
You can do similar with AdsGone and AdAware.

Its because the ip address of the pc is being broadcast across the internet. Either stop the service or use a firewall and prevent icmp from sending out as this is what broadcasts your ip address etc.
I use Tinysoftware's firewall and once configured I stopped getting the annoying alerts.

After being on the web for a while, then turning off my firewall (zone alarm) I get these messages also. could be something to do with the old dos command 'net send' im sure i read somewhere that companies have machines that send out these messages 24/7 also try looking for spyware.
