If you have read my previous post on the asus board and barton 2500 could any of you guys give me an idea of how this chip will over clock with stock air cooling.
I have read of 33% overclocks with this chip on some sites but that is with watercooler. what would be a safe overclock bearing in mind i have crappy TwinMOS pc2700 memory.
Can i adjust both the clock multiplier and FSB on this chip or is it just the FSB. i think it currently runs at 11 x 166 (1.83MHz).
if i up the vCore voltage what would be a reasonable over clock?
cheers guys

mine does 2.1 with an slk800 (50oC tops) although i run it stock to be honest as i don't notice speed improvement, yeah it scores better in benches but reallife games etc cant tell i'd drop the multiplier to maybe 8 and gradually increase the fsb to 200 testing it at each stage, once you've got your fsb set up the multiplier.

have the cpu running at 2136 (12x178). didnt think the TwinMOS memory would take it so i am quite surprised. just short of a 3000+ (though it registers a 2700+ for some reason) which cant be bad. will do the northbridge thing to see if that make a difference. maybe buy some pc3700 memory and knock the fsb to 200 and see how far i can get.
cpu temp is sitting at about 45 degs after running hot cpu tester (calculating primes, pi, matrix etc). is that ok? i am using coolermaster fan(stock item i think).
cheers

Sinky, are you running dual chan, I take it you are though?
You only need PC 3200 for a 400 fsb, but I guess if you want the extra headroom go for it. This board, is it a Rev 2.0? Your Barton will hit 200 + fsb np and as the mobo locks the AGP bus @ 66 you wont have any PCI or HD grief, I set mine at 66 anyhow. Just make sure you dont use the SPD mem timings, set everything to user defined etc.

dual channel how do i get that using the settings. noticed on boot up that it si single channel only. i have set the settings to aggressive and the machine operated for about 45 mins then rebooted itself for no reason.
throttled back to 11 x 166 (stock speed) until i can get better cooling and memory.
thanks for the link to the overclockers forum BTW. some interesting reading on there.
Anyone recommend a good air cooler for the cpu. i have heard golden orb ar pretty good but what is going to get me the best air cooling? would i have to spend much more for water cooling?
sorry for so many questions
cheers

Sinky for dual chan you need 2 sticks of ram, one in slot one and the other in slot 3, the blue one. I like this cooler, I used it for OC'ing for a good while before I went water cooled:

You could hook it up to one of these and only have it up full when you are stressing the CPU:

This is the watercooled setup I have now, its very good quality and cools my Barton 2800 to about 30 (idle) - 40 (stressed). It cost about £150 but I think Overclockers UK do it a bit cheaper.

If you really want to splash out Corsair is deffo the bizz, just get 2 X 256 stix if the cost is more than you planned, 512 is more than enough for everything bar vid editing etc.
And all higher rated ram will run at lower speeds.
