Question

Hi folks.

I was thinking of getting a portable dvd player (mainly for taking on holiday), and having seen that I can get a ps2 for not a vast amount more than the sony dvd player I'm tempted to get one.

I'm not too worried about the games side as I already have an xbox, gamecube, pc, gba etc, but if the dvd playback on the ps2 is ok I may get one, (if only so I can play GT3 / GT4).

So, any views as to what the dvd playback is like. Good / bad?

Cheers,
Iain

Thumbs up

It's fine, but will only play Region 1 DVD's out of the box...

Also, getting the Sony DVD operation remote control and dongle makes it much easier to use than a hand controller. About £10.

get the s-video leads for the best picture, the scarts give you a green screen.

action replay cartridges to make it multi region are around £27

I have thought about it, but it's a bit big to be easily carry around on holiday, (at least in the caravan anyway). PS2 has the advantage of being a fair bit smaller... and I fancied buying a new gadget

My PS2 is my only DVD player and it does a fine job.

I have a 6 ft TV projector and the quality is still very good even on that.

Incidentally, Squizz says it only does region 1. Maybe he lives in the US becasue by default in the UK it should only play region 2. However there is a gadget you can get that makes it multiregion (I don't have 1 thought so cant comment).

Oddly even without the gadget I was able to play some DVDs I brought back from Bulgaria that were a different region. (3?)

i thought bulgaria was region 2 as well (all of europe is region 2 isnt it)

Ive seen the action replay cartrdges in action - it goes into memory card slot and you get a cd that you have to run to be able to select the region that your desired dvd comes from. then you just swap the disc for the dvd.
