dvd-r read problem

m8 copied me some zip files on a dvd-r
howover my dvd player cannot read/copy some of the files
my dvd is a modern liteon one
is this likely to be a dodgy burn or more to do with my dvd player
is firmware likely to fix my dvd player. mine is just a reader

Funny that, I have the same problem with my Lite-On drive. Only way I could get the data off the disk was to read it on my laptop DVD drive and then transfer it over the network.
I upgraded the firmware to the latest revision and it didn't do any good at all
