I am sort of considering a colour laser instead of the current inkjet...as it seems to eat cartridges at a rate when doing any volume of colour printing.
Can anyone recommend me what to look, dont want to spend a fortune so it will probably be something entry level, and what volume of printing do they do before cartridges or whatever they use need replaced ?
Thanks

We've got a couple of Epson Acculaser C900's here @ work. Quality is very good (if you use the expensive photo-quality paper) and the printer itself was only £500.
The biggest cost is replacement toners. The Epson uses 4 catridges - Cyan, Yellow, Magenta and Black. The black is only around £30 to replace, but the colours are £85 each
Laser printers also need new drum units every year or so (depending how heavily it's used) and these are £160 for the Epson.
It ain't cheap that's for sure.

And what are the consumables costs like nowadays?
The company I used to work for were a reseller for Tektronix thermal wax printers and they would scare anyone used to the running costs of a colour laser.

got a HP4500N 3/4 years ago - nice bit of kit. consumables last forever if you are using it to replace an inkjet but they do cost in the region of a few hundred to replace them all.

OK guys, I was thinking that the cartridges lasted a lot longer than injet refills I have an HP and 2 large carts for it cost nearly £70 anyway plus they dont really last that long.
Is print quality not a lot better with laser than inkjet as well ? or is it really not a good buy for home use ??

Main advantage of lasers is the speed over inkjets as long as its single pass. Some fo the older and cheaper models like the first Acculaser are 4 pass and are pretty damn slow with poor print qulaity compares to a good inkjet. QMS do some very good sub 1K colour lasers but Xerox are about the best .
Why do you think you need a colour laser ?

our xerox phaser 790 has just *ucked up bigstyle
a new fuser roller and some stuff i snapped off, comes to over a grand.....
the printer cost £5,000 2/5 years ago, and is a waste of money
i am replacing it this week with a little HP2500 which starts from about £699+vat, depending on spec (networkable/papertrays etc.)
the quality is just as good as the xerox, which just takes up half the fookin office!!!!

The Epson Acculaser C900 is pretty decent. It takes a while to warm-up, so the first print takes ages to print, then once it's up & running it'll happily churn out page after page.
We bought ours primarily to print colour presentations for some of the roadshows we do.
Haven't tried any photo-quality paper, but I give it a go with some photos to see how it compares to my Epson Stylus Photo 860 @ home.

I have bought a few OKI 7300's for work - absolutely superb - v quick, and dont need oil etc. Uses standard paper for anything.
Trouble is there approx £1500. But the dogs.
We had 2 QMS Magicolor 2 Desklasers before them. What a pile of poo! - But the new models are better apparently.

Had absolutely no problems with it.
Put a fair few in customer's offices as well, only problem was caused by secretary being very very very stupid! (Don't use A4 paper from art pads, it's glued together at the top and causes all sorts of problems for the printer (if you do, at least seperate the pages first, don't just remove the first page and the cardboard!!!!)

Ozzy, we are just about to order some wax for our Xerox 8200 printer, I'll let you know how much it costs. I don't usually do consumables purchasing
