Right and that will do a Search in one topic area, i.e. "Computer Related"?
Edited to say: Perhaps I took Puffs suggestion out of context. When he said to search this forum I was was interpreting that is "in Computer Related". Maybe that's me being stupid in taking "forum" to mean one topic area of the whole of SN, i.e. "General" forum, "Non Related" forum etc.
Search would certainly be more useful if you could.

I can recommend the NEC 1760NX. Swapped a 19 inch monitor for one and I'm now converted.
The only thing I really miss is the greater resolution(1600 plus) but to be honest I I want to get a stunning gaming experience I just move my PC into the living room and connect it to the projector.

FYI
TFT LCDs
Quick run down on the technology choices: -
Cheapest is TN+Film
Next up is IPS (In Plane Switching)
Similar to IPS and at about the same quailty is MVA (Multidomain Vertical Alignement)
Dearest, but best is Super IPS.
New technology to look out for is called PenTile Matrix.
Useful info and tools at http://www.displaymate.com

Cheers

I bought a Philips Brilliance 18 months ago. It was in the PC-Pro A-List at the time. Great monitor for coding, surfing and I got loads of desk space back.
However, about 3 weeks later the 17" CRT came back out and I now have even less desk space as I have both monitors!
Reason for getting the CRT out was for gaming. The panel connected via DVI to a gforce3 ti 200/64Mb video card, inside a box running an Intel specific m/b with P4 1.5Ghz CPU, 512Mb RAM - sufffered too much motion blurr.
I was really disappointed with it on the games front. I tend to play a lot of first person shooters like Unreal Tournamnet and Doom. I'd really like to get rid of the CRT but am loathe to lose money on another panel.
Any gamers out there using a panel for that type of gaming and happy with it?
Cheers

Molds,
The current batch of good TFTs all use the same panel. However, a new improved panel is out next month, this will either be so much better you will want that panel or reduce the prices of the current batch of panels to a level you can afford.
Toms Hardware Guide has some reviews but back them up on other sites for the panel you like most. Current good panels are NEC, Hitachi etc. Iiyama have the new panel out and i think more to come, expect price drops soon

I'd love to do a Search just in this forum. How do yo do that please?
The cost is not really the issue here, its whether I end up with another unsuitable monitor.
Interesting that there are 3 types of panel currently. I can't remember the details and you rarely see an advert talking about the type. However, the internals of the cheaper type are no where near as good as the expensive type. Wonder what this, about to be released, next generation is all about?
I'll post up details of the 3 types FYI when I remember where I was reading it.
So, no 1st person shooter gamers about happily using a panel?
Cheers

Neil, interesting you should say that. Mr Footlong in one of the links Chris provided recommends the same one.
As for the projector, well... thats just being a smarty pants ins't it

Yep, I love my NEC LCD1760NX to bits and grew quickly accustomed to the minimal lag when moving around quickly on fast bright games like BF1942. I wouldn't swap back at all now. The gaming resolution of 1280x1024 is fine, especially with a Radeon 9700pro, with 2xAA and 16xAF on. Looks lovely with a pretty small performance hit. Hell, I still get about 14000 odd 3dmarks with those settings. If you are going to be using a gaming res of 1280, then your machine combo and VGA card will run like a bit of a dog IMHO without you setting the game details right down. GF2/GF3ti200's are not a good match at that res on games like ut2003 IMO.
I would really consider waiting for a month if P1's info is spot on to see what happens.
Cheers,
Nick

Nick, so there is some lag compared to the CRT?
Appreciate what you are saying about my video card and CPU. Doesn't it make you cry how quickly your cutting edge kit becomes eBay fodder :-(
Think the advice to hang on is sound. Thats what I'll do.
Cheers

Lag on a CRT is virtually non-existant compared with even 16ms response screens, like the NEC. If you are used to seeing lag on a crt, it is either very old, the game is meantto display some form of strobing or the machine is just chugging away on the game. I can't remember ever coming across a crt that 'lagged'

Sorry, really busy so missed that. Yes, there is still lag, but not nearly enough to detract from the gaming. a million times better than the LCD's from 1+ years ago.

Just got hold of a SOny 17inch SDM-HS73 TFT screen.
Awesome picture and good enuff to play games - plays counterstrke nice on my screen. Native res is 1280X1024 but even at lower res like 1024 /800/ 640 picture is still very clear - best of the vdu i tested so far when testing vdu at lower res. Def check out the VDU.
Pop into John lewis to see a demo of the VDU
