Question

I'm thinking of getting an X-Box, but before I do, I havea few questions:

Is the X-Box locked to a region? e.g. europe, US, Asia etc
If so, can it be unlocked?
Is it possible to 'back-up' games to the H/D or blank media?
Are there any must have games?

I've seen these offers:
Xbox / Halo / Metal Gear Solid Substance Hardware Pack for £170 Xbox / Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 2003 / Toca Race Driver £185
Xbox / The Sims £150
Xbox / Halo £150

Which would you recommend?

Xbox is Region linked. You can have it chipped to play any disk new or copied (Bad boy. Not allowed.)

You can buy an Xbox from Play.com for 119.99. Games from them, ebay, computer exchange etc. Look around, there are some bargins to be had.

once it's chipped, you can run games from the HD, but the standard HD is tiny (about 5 Gig) - I'm playing CMR3 off the HD and there's about 1.5 Gig left

Gotta think about a BIG HD (XBox will take up 120Gig?)

Speeds thinks up, but the transfer to HD takes a while

Dan

PS Dunk - thanks m8

Question

So it's like chipping the old Playstations then?

How big are the games? Does that mean there's nothing stopping you borrowing & 'backing up' loads of games to the H/D?

Only the anti-piracy laws.

Depending upon the size of the games (range from a couple of hundred KB to several GB)

I've got around 30 odd on my 120GB (originals )and its only half full. With a 120GB drive you lose nearly 10GB replicating the original partitions, its just one of the partitions increases to around 110GB

you can put DVD movies on there too if you like.

Cheeky! I like it! Might have to put Matrix Reloaded on as my DVD player struggles with it.

Very tempted but only like the look of Halo. Anything else worth a look at?
Fancy some motorsport, is Geoff Crammonds F1GP available?

Question

Had a quick look today, do you have to buy the DVD remote if you get the X-Box chipped?

MS produced some with 8Gb and some with 10Gb drives.

My original was a Seagate U Series 5 ST310211A 10Gb drive.
Now its a Seagate Barracuda 120Gb jobbie and full up
50 games plus on the disk (all owned by me) and loads of films.

Waiting for the X-Deck to be finished to that I can get more disks setup neatly, rather than having cables hanging out everywhere.

I fancy the limited edition green one (played Halo on my brother's and am hooked - makes the PS2 look ancient).

Best place to buy? does it come with one or two controllers as standard? Is Halo 2 going to be online?

Not 2 as standard, but some bundles do it (and the geek at the local Virgin shop as well by accident ) Got free controller when I bought mine last year.
Halo 2 will be online over Xbox Live
Had a 5-6 player sesh on 2 xbox's on saturday. Great fun..... just stopping every 2 mins though to each more dorito's.

Dont forget - you can play Halo online too via xbconnect, without XBlive.
