I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to add my computer to a domain using netdom.
Trying this plus variations, but is not working:
netdom /domain:domain_name /user:administrator /password:adminpasswd member my_computername /joindomain
Looked on google, and they all say /domain:domain_name though netdom always complains about "the parameter 'domain' was unexpected".
Using W2000 Server SP3
I've tried joining the domain via "Network identification" in the properties within "My computer" - though this says the Domain does not exist or is not available. (It does, and it is!) Can see the network (ping and map drives) with no problem, just doesn't want to add me back on to the domain.
This is all because I've worked at another of our sites this week, and they've screwed up my network settings
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong with the syntax?

Kevin,
netdom is indeed a very powerful tool, but you can use a modified lmhosts file to help resolve this problem as it preloads the domain info...works every time.

here ya go....just had to find it on me desktop
192.168.100.2 #PRE:"your-domain /0x1b" #DOM:your-domain
there has to be exactly 25 characters between the quotes.

it would appear if you want to remove the computer from the domain you need to use netdom remove (ie you cant just remove it from AD) before you can rerun netdom join as it leaves some footprint. you can reimage the machine and delete from AD then re run the command.
I've written a VB app to join a specific container in AD if you're interested.
cheers
Paul
