if encryption isn't on or access isn't limited to certain i.p or mac addy's someone could park out front of house and pick up your signal.

Give it a reboot (from the control panel). Mine gets a bit funny after a while.

Might also need a firmware update (there's a "check for updated firmware" button on the control panel too).

What signal strength are you getting at the laptop? I found that running the PCMCIA card in the laptop on "power saving" mode rather than "continuous access" caused a lot of the problems you're describing.

Once it has been set up and working, it should always work. There are no settings in IE to adjust in order to use wireless.

Is it possible you are at the limit of the range from the router and getting a very poor signal?

Could also be the cache/temporary internet files needs clearing or simply problems loading the pages in general.

I sometimes find that our router at work plays up - its not wireless, but like you I get failed email, internet explorer.

Try going into the control panel of your router, I'm not that well up but try typing something like 192.168.0.01, or 192.168.254.254 into your browser address bar - this is the IP address of the router, and should take you to the router control panel ( which is really a web page ), from here you can set it up.

When it happens with me, I go into the router ( I have the IP address page saved to Favs), then I go to the connection page. If I disconnect and then reconnect this usually cures the problem. I would think that my router is not properley set up, but I don't really know much about it, I just do what I said above and hope for the best.

Also you say that sometimes just the homepage loads but you can go no further, If you have been to the site before then i think the page is just loading from your temporary internet files.

But I could be talking Twaddle

Cheers,

Mike.

If someone's gone to the trouble of sitting outside your house just for an internet connection chances are they have the tools to break any security you could put in place. I advertise mine and haven't noticed anyone using it yet, neither has my service provider.
