I need to implement a basic web based chat facility that will show a list of users one one side. this is so the users can chat amongst themselves and also ask "tutors" for help.

I'm not a whizz kid when it comes to this sort of stuff.. but i'm thinking maybe a simple asp based thing.

Anyone any ideas.. allready built solutions??

The easiest thing is to use Yahoo Messenger, and add everybody into a group? That's what we do....

I can't use yahoo messenger, they won't have external internet access. , i'm sure the NHS won't like it either

Apart from those pre-built solutions, its relatively easy to hand code in a scripting language like asp, php or cfusion.

There's also a lot of pre-written packages you can run on your server - just look up "chat room software" on a search engine

There's an "Enterprise" version of MSN messenger.
But as someone has already suggested, NetMeeting will be fine. Just make the server somewhere on the LAN.
