I use a laptop at home due to a teenage daughter who lives on the desktop and usually leave it on all the time, just letting it go into stanby mode on its own. Should I be shutting it down every night or is it OK to leave it on, I rarely use it on the battery and it is allways plugged in, is this going to do the battery any harm.

Li-ION should be stored at around 30% charge. If you're always using power, then they will never get a full cycle so when you do come to use them, they will die pretty rapidly.

Best thing, run them down to 30% and remove them if you're staying on power.
